Set Gangway

Remove the Dock Side (STB) Lines

Set the dock safety lines on the cleats previously used by the STB side lines

Remove the canal-side lines from the PORT side cleats

Position the boat close to the finger dock so the STB sugar-scoop steps are within reach of the gangway

Set a bow and stern spring line to the aft cleat so the boat stays locked in position

After securing the aft position, set the bow spring line to the STB bow cleat to keep the boat parallel to the dock. The line is there from step 1. Make it tighter.

Remove the nuts and bolts, leaving only the center safety pin in place

Remove the gangway’s right-side line from the piling and hold it in your right hand

With your left hand, loosen the gangway’s left-side line and hold the gangway in position

Remove the white safety lines from the left side of the gangway. You are holding the gangway now.

Lower the gangway on the boat side. Use the lines as reins to avoid swings and choose the position. The receiving crew member then takes it and sets it on a sugar scoop.

If necessary, remove the center safety pin, reposition the gangway safety, and reinsert the safety pin

Place a padded mat between the gangway and the boat to prevent dents
